Our Beginning return to list >
For Shawn and me it was love at second sight. A mutual friend of ours was having a party, and that is where we first met. Our first meeting was not remarkable, and I did not think much of him one way or the other that night. Luckily for us, our friends decided to play matchmakers and encouraged us to go on a date. We had a great time on our first date. We went to dinner, a comedy club and then stopped for ice cream. Right away we realized how much we had in common, and I couldn't believe that I didn't notice how handsome he was when I first met him. After a year and half together, Shawn proposed on Labor Day weekend while we were on vacation at Glacier National Park in Montana. We were hiking in the Rocky Mountains of Glacier Park all week. One special hike took us several hours to reach Iceberg Lake, which is a small frozen lake tucked away in the mountains. When we stopped to have lunch by the lake, Shawn surprised me with a ring he had been carrying around in his backpack all week. We spent the rest of our vacation talking about our future together. The following December we were married. I would love to say that our December wedding went off without a hitch, but the weather did not cooperate. It snowed six inches the night before our wedding. The roads were very bad for our rehearsal dinner, and my pregnant sister who was driving my elderly grandparents home from the rehearsal dinner ended up with her car off the road in a ditch. Luckily no one was hurt, and some people who saw the accident were able to push her car out of the ditch. Some of our guest were not able to make it to the wedding because of the weather, but other than that it was a great day for us with a lot of fond memories.
